Our August Advocate of the Month, Rich Smith, was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho and has lived in Colorado since 1998. Rich worked in the tech industry for IBM for 14 years and now owns a classic car restoration business. Rich wanted to help his community, and he found that CASA was the perfect opportunity for him to do that. Rich has been a CASA Volunteer Advocate since April 2017, and though he's only been an Advocate for a short time, he has made a huge impact on the families he works with.
In Rich’s first CASA case, he represents an infant who was subjected to substance abuse since birth and subsequently placed in an unstable living arrangement. With absent parents and a less-than-ideal place to live, Rich felt an urgency to advocate for this infant and ended up taking on her case immediately. Rich’s background in computer engineering lends itself to his CASA work. He goes the extra mile and goes into great detail about the current status of the child and her environment. His attention to detail has been praised by the Magistrate and respondent attorneys.
Rich has recently taken on a second case also involving an infant who was subjected to medical neglect, along with his one year old sibling who both were living in an unsafe environment at home. Just like on his first case, he has hit the ground running.
Rich Smith is a great addition to our growing team of thoroughly dedicated CASA Volunteer Advocates. He has been a major help to the children he serves, and we appreciate his ongoing dedication to making the community around him a better place. Thank you Rich!
