Protecting Children in a Digital Age
80% of children in 25 countries report feeling in danger of sexual abuse or exploitation online. And every half second around the world, a child goes online for the first time. Children are growing up in a digital age, one that necessitates being online. So how do we protect children when they’re using the internet? This session will dive into the ways in which children are using the internet, the ways potential offenders are using it, and inevitable overlaps. We will discuss how children are being victimized through technology, how to protect children from sexual exploitation, and how to respond if something happens. Finally, we will explore ways to have healthy conversations with children about the internet and online victimizations.
Speaker Ashley Jellison is the Executive Director of the Colorado Children’s Alliance. In her work, she is passionate about bettering the response to child abuse statewide.
