Meet A Volunteer

Hi there!

My name is Jennifer and I’ve been a CASA Volunteer for one year now. I started as an advocate in August 2025, and since then, I’ve worked on two cases.

My journey to becoming a CASA Volunteer has been a long time in the making. I first heard about CASA when my sister was in college. CASA is the philanthropy for her sorority, and I thought it was meaningful even then. That idea stayed with me for years. A few years ago, I ran into someone at a CASA promotion tent at a local event, and it reminded me of the organization and the important work it does. I made a promise to myself that I would start volunteering when I retired. After more than 30 years of teaching, I retired in May 2025, and here I am. I’m so grateful to be part of this work.

One of the biggest takeaways for me has been learning about the incredible and complex system we have to protect children. I’ve also been deeply moved by how many people truly care about the children in our communities. I’m continually impressed by the number of agencies that partner with CASA to support these kids. It’s a powerful reminder that we’re not alone in this. There is a whole network of people working together for their well-being.

Thankfully, there have been so many heartwarming moments. The hugs and excitement I get when I show up for a visit always make my day. But one moment that will always stay with me happened when I was leaving a visit and one of the children poked their head out the door and said, “I love you.” It was such a simple moment, but it meant so much. It made me feel like I was really doing something worthwhile.

For anyone thinking about becoming a CASA Volunteer, I would say this: all kids need someone in their corner, and this is a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting impact on a child. What better way could you find to use your spare time than helping to make the world a more caring and compassionate place?

Being a CASA Volunteer has given me a real sense of purpose. It’s helped me gain a deeper understanding of my community, and it’s brought me camaraderie with others who want to give kids all the love they need to grow and thrive.
