Congratulations to our June Volunteer of the Month, Laura Afflerbaugh!

Congratulations to our June Volunteer of the Month, Laura Afflerbaugh!

Laura completed her volunteer training in 2019 and is currently serving on her fourth case.

She learned about CASA at a presentation that was given to a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group she is a part of. When Laura heard about the work and goals of the CASA program, she recalls her “heart beating fast, and it felt like a sign that she should volunteer.”

Laura feels that one of the most important things we can do is support the next generation. She has learned so much in her time as a CASA Volunteer about trauma, how it impacts children, and most importantly, tools for supporting them in their healing journey.

June is recognized as National Reunification Month, a chance to honor the people and efforts that go towards keeping families together. Laura shared: “You can’t overlook all the people who step in to help support a family – foster parents, relatives and kin, case professionals – all working towards a common goal of reunification when safely possible.”

Two of Laura’s cases were able to end in family reunification. She shared, “The beautiful thing about reunification is seeing the whole family together – there are no sides!”

If you are curious about volunteering with CASA, Laura wants you to know that “if you have a heart for kids and families, this is one of the most impactful ways that you can support the kids and families that are struggling most in our community.”

Thank you to Laura for her commitment to supporting children and strengthening families in our community! We so appreciate her efforts and that is why she was selected as our June Volunteer of the Month.
