Meet A Volunteer

My name is Dave, and for 3 ½ years, I’ve been a CASA Volunteer. It wasn’t an easy start, but now, with this Family Engagement opportunity, I feel like I’ve found something truly special.

In the years I’ve been with CASA, I’ve worked on three cases. Why did I sign up in the first place? I’ve done other volunteering—Victim Advocate with Broomfield PD, Youth for Christ Big Brother, Meals on Wheels, serving on boards. But none of those quite filled the void. I wanted to go deeper, to get involved in a more meaningful way. A dear friend, who knew my heart, told me about CASA and encouraged me to try it.

It’s been worth it. CASA is an incredible organization with amazing people working for and with them. But it’s not something you can just dip a toe into. You have to be committed.

There have been hard moments. Families are struggling in ways I can’t fix, and I don’t always have the answers. That’s tough. But I’ve gotten through those moments with CASA’s great support staff, empathy for the families, and the belief that I’m making a difference. Sometimes, just being a good listener is enough.

As for heartwarming moments? I’m still patiently waiting for one of those big, breakthrough moments. But I’m not giving up.

To anyone thinking about becoming a CASA Volunteer, I’d say this: search your heart to make sure it’s the right fit for you. Dive in, and be prepared to be blessed.

And if I ever win the lottery? CASA would have a whole lot of smiling and celebrating coming their way.
