Meet A Volunteer
Hello! My name is Kiana, and I’ve been with CASA since the pandemic, so around four years now!
During that time, I’ve worked on five cases. Each one has been different, and each one has taught me something valuable.
I became a CASA Volunteer to help kids who need someone. Sometimes, all a child needs is someone from the semi-outside to show support. Just to let them see that people are here, and that we truly care.
One of the biggest takeaways for me is realizing how many different views and perspectives exist in these cases. Nothing is ever black and white, and no part of these cases should be treated that way. But regardless of the frenzy of any one case, the children involved deserve the world and more, no matter how many challenges must be overcome to get them there. Not a single soul should fall through the cracks or be given up on.
I’ve dealt with difficulties throughout different cases, but a lot of those moments can be overcome simply by continuing to be there. We can only do so much as one person, or even one organization, but when the community comes together, the results can be limitless. You never know when you’re going to find that final resource that helps someone who may have felt completely hopeless.
Plenty of heartwarming moments have happened, too. Once you start to form a relationship with a family, it’s a wonderful feeling to know that your effort is not only helping, but also gaining a place in their hearts and lives.
To anyone thinking about becoming a CASA Volunteer, I say: why wait? It’s a rewarding volunteer experience for everyone involved. No matter the challenges that come with it, the hope of giving a child a better chance at life, any way you possibly can, is more than enough. Every bit of effort goes toward pure healing and goodness.
