Meet A Volunteer
Hello!
My name is Marissa Mink, and I’ve been with CASA for one year now. In that time, I’ve had the opportunity to work on two Family Engagement cases, both of which have reminded me why I wanted to do this in the first place.
Becoming a CASA volunteer was something I had always hoped to do. My two daughters, now grown, were adopted from Adams County. One of them had an incredible CASA worker during that time. We’re still close with her today. Seeing the difference she made in my daughter’s life stayed with me. For years, I didn’t think I’d ever have the time to take on a CASA role myself, but the Family Engagement program turned out to be the perfect fit for my life.
One of the biggest takeaways for me has been recognizing just how much impact one person can have on a child’s life and education. Sometimes it really does come down to having someone who shows up, believes in them, and helps them feel supported.
So far, I haven’t experienced too many hard moments. I know they will come—this work can be challenging—but I also know there are so many supports in place when they do. That gives me a lot of comfort and confidence moving forward.
There have already been some truly heartwarming moments, too. One that stands out is when one of my middle school students received an award, Student of the Month, thanks in part to her improved attendance. I was so incredibly proud of her. Moments like that remind me how meaningful this work is.
If someone is thinking about becoming a CASA volunteer, I would tell them to do it. I assumed I wouldn’t have enough time until I was retired, but the Family Engagement program makes it possible for people who still work and have busy schedules to get involved. It’s flexible, fulfilling, and so worth it.
Thank you to CASA for everything you do. I’m truly proud to be part of this amazing organization.
