Meet A Volunteer

Hi! My name is Rebecca Pommer and I have been a volunteer with CASA for about 7 or 8 months now, serving on my first case.

I have wanted to be a CASA Volunteer for many years but due to being a military wife and moving a lot, I could not commit.  When my husband retired from the Air Force and we moved home, I finally was in a place I could help. That is why I became a volunteer; helping at-risk children is the most rewarding work I have ever done in my life. I just want to make a difference and hopefully be a positive force for children who need it most.

One of the biggest takeaways as a volunteer is the pleasure of being surrounded by people who are extremely encouraging and knowledgeable. Even though I have a lot of experience working with children, I have never done it in the context of the court system.

It can be challenging to not have control over the court process, and it can require patience. However, I’m hoping my first case will close soon with the best possible outcome for my CASA kid!

It was a heartwarming moment when I was able to acquire my CASA child a gift card from One Simple Wish, and I took her to Target. She ended up buying gifts for her family.  It was humbling to see this child in a broken and traumatized state putting others before herself.  I was encouraged and proud of her.

When I meet the right people, I always tell them about being a CASA Volunteer. I tell them that it’s amazing to be trusted with a position that can change the life of a child in need. I also tell them that the CASA community has such great people with endless encouragement, advice, and resources.
